Deportivo La Coruna is facing a possible historic modification of its official name. The Galician entity is studying the adoption of the name Real Club Deportivo de La Coruña, in adaptation to the official toponym, although the final decision has not been made yet. According to Radio Galega, the club is working with the expectation that the change could be announced in May. The date is not casual: it coincides with both the commemoration of the League title and the Day of Galician Letters, two notable events in the sports calendar. The club already surveyed some of its subscribers months ago on this issue, in a consultation that also included other identity elements such as a possible new anthem or mascot. The initiative to adapt the name to the Galician toponym is not new, as it has been promoted for years by the IES Rafael Dieste through the campaign 'Aquí también se habla'. The Coruña City Council recently renamed one of its streets as Ronda Real Club Deportivo de La Coruña, incorporating the adapted form of the club's name into public space. All this takes place in a symbolic year for the entity, which celebrates its 120th anniversary. The possible change is also part of a broader process promoted by the Xunta de Galicia, which has updated the regional nomenclator with the support of the Royal Galician Academy.
